The Solid Rock – Through the Decades

On October 18, 2026, SouthPark Church will celebrate 60 years of ministry and mission in the heart of SouthPark.

Our story began in 1966, when we were founded as Sharon United Methodist Church. Our first worship service was held on September 4, 1966, and on October 2, the church was formally constituted with its first 60 members.

For many years, our distinctive architecture made us a SouthPark landmark. With its sweeping roofline, the church became affectionately known as the “ski slope” church—a familiar and unique presence in our community.

Today, the campus has been re-imagined through the Love SouthPark Initiative as part of the Apex SouthPark Development, bringing apartments, retail, restaurants, and a hotel to the property. And right in the middle of it all stands SouthPark Church, continuing its ministry in the heart of the community.

Our 60th anniversary theme, “The Solid Rock – Through the Decades,” reminds us that while buildings change, communities change, and generations come and go, our foundation remains the same: Jesus Christ. He is the Solid Rock upon which this church has been built for six decades—and the foundation upon which we look toward the future.

We will begin our anniversary celebration with a special piano and organ concert on Sunday afternoon, October 11, featuring Lee Northcutt and John Stafford.

Then, on Sunday morning, October 18, we will gather to celebrate 60 years of worshiping, serving, and sharing God’s love in the heart of SouthPark. Worship begins at 10:00 AM, with additional anniversary events, to include light bites, following the service.

Everyone is invited, and all events are open to the public.

For 60 years, God has been faithful. Through the decades, Christ has remained our Solid Rock—and we look forward with gratitude and hope to all that God will continue to do through SouthPark Church.
